HOP SING VIBES... with Breanna!

Silk embroidered tunic - Odd Molly, cutoff shorts - Free People • hand-rubbed vintage distressed boots - BedStÜ
I haven't known this stunning and ethereal beauty for long, but her "beyond-her-age fashion savvy" is what drew her into my world. At only 18 years old she exudes an honest, fluid and natural self-expression that many woman twice her age lack. In this day and age, so many young women are buying into cheap and disposable trendy fashions; Breanna has an appreciation for high quality and design that belies her age.  She chooses wisely and invests in truly special pieces when she can afford the opportunity.

She is remarkable!

Name: Breanna Burkizer
Place of birth: Glendale, Arizona
Age: 18

Describe your "signature look"...
My signature look would have to be messy hair, winged eyeliner, and red lipstick.

Who or what inspires you?
Surrealism, music, photography, and nature inspires me most to be who I am.

What makes you feel beautiful?
I feel most beautiful when I have my makeup the way I love it, and when I'm wearing things that make me feel confident and cute.

Name an item of clothing you can't live without...
I cannot live without cute summer dresses and denim shorts.

"...anything from Wildfox- so worth it because nothing makes you feel as cute and comfortable!" - Breanna

The biggest splurge in your closet
The biggest splurge in my closet would have to be anything from Wildfox- but they are so worth it because nothing makes you feel as cute and comfortable!

The biggest waste of money in your closet...
The biggest waste would have to be these very unflattering sparkly jeans I bought in Chicago. I didn't really want them, but the sales associate pushed me into getting them.

What's the most memorable piece of clothing you've worn, and what made it special? The most memorable piece of clothing I've worn is the dress I wore to my graduation.  It was so beautiful and vintage, I felt like a 40's pin up girl in it- which is one of my favorite looks.

What's your guilty pleasure/something you can't resist?

My guilty pleasure would have to be the amount of candy I have.  I actually bought a 4 pound tub of redvines for myself yesterday. Oops!

What is your beauty/skincare routine?
The most important part of my skin care routine would be making sure all my makeup is off at night. I use the clarisonic brush to get everything off, and then follow it up with toner and moisturizer.

What has been the biggest surprise about the age you are now?
The biggest surprise about being 18 is realizing that being 18 does not make you a grown up, unlike I always thought when I was younger.

Please share the best advice you've ever received?
The best advice I've received is being told to truly live in the moment. To clear the noise in my head, look at everything that is around me, and take it all in and be completely aware, because you only get one life and if you aren't enjoying every second you'll end up regretting it.

Do you believe in destiny?
I do believe in destiny, I believe everything happens for a reason, and that everything you have ever done has brought you to the moment you are in right now. That is truly something to appreciate and recognize.

What's next for you?
What's next for me is to continue doing the things that I love and to immerse myself in everything that inspires me.  I know that will take me somewhere great.

Thank you Breanna, you inspire us!

Caution:: written under the influence of a Christmas Hangover...

Caution:: This may possibly be written under the influence of a Christmas Hangover...

You know the feeling,  like an L-tryptophan high.

Here we are, December 26th, possibly the least celebrated day of the year... A day of sluggish delight.  If not for contractual obligations, I'd never leave my den today. So,  I'm en-route to the Hop for a possibly feverish day of post holiday shopping, but also prepared for the opposite effect.  After all isn't preparation key to being positively good at anything? I plan to be sluggish - all day if at all possible!  I packed up holiday goodies, and brought a book, a great book! Yes, all the afore mentioned items I received for Christmas, and I feel its my holiday obligation to consume them all, including the book!... How else do you spell holiday hangover - other then in weights and measures!

The Christmas season came and went in a flash this year. We celebrated the season of Abundance the last Thursday instead of the fourth Thursday of November adding to time warp confusion and thrusting us into the Christmas Season... making this the Christmas that came and went  like a Green Flash upon the sea's horizon... in my opinion.

It was a beautiful season, and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Hop Sing, our Home away from home, provides us a venue to host holiday events, and kick'um off we did! The Hop celebrated it's 4th anniversary (Yay!!!) in early November, we had so much fun, I actually forgot to take pictures! Then came our next event... and may I announce,  we have a new tradition! A Black Friday - Food Drive! It felt right, was a great success and of course  compassion for those in need is always in fashion!

Then came the Festivities of the Courthouse Lighting and Holiday Light Parades & Acker Musical Showcase... Festivities and Music aside, these events have taken my holiday spirits down in years past, with hordes of heads arguing with me about why I should allow selfies in my expensive handmade hats all night! I mean seriously!!! Doesn't every man, woman & child possess a cell phone now! Can you imagine how used and gross the hats would be if everyone and their cousin put it on for just one picture! Yuck! I refuse to change my policy about hats and photos! And to prevent altercations this year we hired a security guard to sit in the hat section! Problem solved, and we sold more pretty hats then ever, and I managed to smile through the highest traffic days of the year!

And finally came the -back to back- shopping days leading up to Christmas Eve. We put a DJ on the payroll and the store took on an exciting new facet, cuz, really... do we need a reason to have a DJ? Life's short, just dance! You can certainly expect to find the party happening at the Hop well beyond New Years Eve!

One thing is for certain...
The girls have been having fun and so have we!

Till later!
Happy New Year Lovelies!

Top Fall Trends

Hi everyone! It's Emily here. Really missing everyone in Prescott! Really missing the Hop. And of course Lauren. School is going good but really slow and I haven't been too motivated. I'm working at Anthropologie now, which is great, but I do miss Hop Sing lots! You ladies in Prescott are lucky to have Hop Sing. Trust me, I live in LA, but I still am saving my money to go to Hop Sing for the Holidays. I can't wait to see what Lauren brings in... I'm thinkin some Odd Molly and some cozy Free Peep sweaters. Yay!!

But for now, I'm going to focus this post on some of the top trends for fall that I see lots in LA. So here you go.

These next few photos are some I did for my new website. If those of you who don't know, I'm at Biola University studying photography. I'm trying to go into fashion so I'm working towards building my portfolio and these are a part of that! If you're interested, my fashion website is emilygoswick.com

And I was pleasantly surprised to find out the way I styled my model for this shoot is right on target with the fall trends! Check it out. She's wearing the skirt, the boots, military jacket, and headpiece. I think I got it down ;).

That's all for tonight! Have a good week everyone!
