The 139th running of the Kentucky Derby and the first leg of the triple crown ran yesterday, May 4th. As always, this iconic event did not disappoint. They don’t call it “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” for nothing! The race once again proved why the Kentucky Derby is so beloved.
Orb: Kentucky Derby Winner 2013 ~ Orb overcame a muddy track and was well-behind the pack entering the final turn. But jockey, Joel Rosario rode Orb from about 15th at the 3/4, to the lead with a brave push in the final 300 yards.
Of course the die-hard race fashionistas worked it out as well. This year, as always, the fashion watching was spectacular! Hats, everywhere of course. Fashion-watching has always been the other official spectator sport at Churchill Downs — and, neither non-stop buckets of rain nor ankle-deep puddles changed that. The ladies managed to keep it festive and beautiful!
